Music Together: Parent & Child

Ages: 0 - 5 Years | Class Length: 45 Minutes

This is the essential Music Together® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five. Based on the recommendations of child development researchers, this class groups children of a variety of ages, which fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones,; older children learn by leading younger ones, ; and adults enjoy having their whole family in class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers — parents, grandparents, nannies — can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience. 45-minute classes include songs, rhythmic rhymes, movement, and instrument play. These activities are presented as informal, non-performance-oriented musical experiences – –developmentally- appropriate for children and easy for parents and caregivers – regardless of their own musical ability. 2 CDs, a digital download of the CD, and Songbook are included! Classes are taught by Harmonious Horizons.

Rock Band

Ages: Grades 6 and Up | Class Length: 90 Minutes

Welcome to Rootz Rock Band! We are so excited to create an amazing opportunity for our musical kids that have experience and are ready for the next level in a group environment. With the help of our experienced instructors, students will learn the skills necessary for playing and performing with other musicians. Children will go through an audition process*, and instructors will create each band by compatibility of skill level and instruments. Accepted instruments include guitar, bass, drums, piano, and vocals. Rock Band students will benefit strongly from having private lessons in addition to their Rock Band Class. Students will have a great time performing for friends and family on our Rootz stage.

*Participants may register, however placement is not guaranteed.  Please contact us to set up your audition appointment.

Musical Performance Classes

Broadway Bound

Grades: Pre K-K or K-1 | Class Length: 60 Minutes

Come onstage for an introduction to musical theatre in Broadway Bound. Using teamwork, theatre games, technique exercises and imaginative play, we will work together to create a mini-musical for our families. Every session we do a different popular play to recreate for friends and family on the last day. This spring, we will transform our students into cute little black and white puppies (a whole bunch of them!) trying to find their way home to their mommy and daddy. Costumes, props, and more set this opportunity above the rest!

Class Benefits:

  • Confidence expressing self onstage

  • Turn-taking and sharing

  • Learning to identify and explore our feelings, bodies, and voices

  • Creative expression in creating stories and pretending with a group

  • An introduction to an end-of-session performance, in costumes, for a live audience.
